UK Debt stats (as of March 2013):

  • Secured debt: £1,265 billion
  • Unsecured debt: £158 billion
  • Credit card debt: £55.50 billion
  • Average credit card APR: 18.5%

Of the £55.50 billion credit card debt, approximately 72.5% is ‘interest bearing’ (eg, £40.24 billion is carried over each month). Which means that the UK is paying around £618,986,875 every month in credit card interest (that's about £14,132 a minute). And that's not including loans, mortgages, or other types of debt.
